VOICES Festival: OB AUS LUFT

15 October 2023 @ 17:00 - 20:00

Boris Filanovsky's "Ob aus Luft" is a musical meditation on loss, inspired by the celebrated cycle of poems by Maria Stepanova. With a perfect blend of silence and fervor, static and expression, the Swiss artist duo of soprano Maja Bader and pianist Leonhard Dering give the piece a lively interpretation. In the second half of the concert, bass-baritone Nicholas Isherwood and pianist Marina Khorkova span a range from John Cage's early songs to post-Soviet works, some of which were composed especially for him, by Artyom Kim (Uzbekistan), Eka Chabashvili (Georgia) and Helena Tulve (Estonia), among others. The different tonal languages of these works form
a diverse universe of vocal techniques and scenic elements, which Nicholas Isherwood brings together in a music-theatrical way.

19:00: After the concert there will be a talk with the poet Maria Stepanova and other guests (Studio, Radialsystem).
