With The Tower of Babel, Klangforum Wien is dedicating itself to current works by composers from the former Soviet Union. First performed at the Wiener Konzerthaus and in the Radialsystem Berlin in 2023, the ensemble returns to Berlin with discoveries and with an expanded focus on new compositions from Central Asia. The program maps the new in the music of today’s post-Soviet societies, showcasing in this edition and with due artistic integrity uncompromising positions from Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Lithuania, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
The project is intended to emerge from this currently so dilapidated cultural landscape as a „tower to Babel“: pluralistic, still utopian, and radiating with the same charm as a place of refuge and a vantage point.
