Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra / Steven Sloane / Elisabeth Leonskaja, piano

22. Juni 2021 , 20:00

At the end of his first season as chief conductor of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Steven Sloane brings his orchestra to Germany together with the great pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja. Steven Sloane is known to Berlin audiences as guest conductor of the Konzerthausorchester, the DSO, the Deutsche Oper and the Komische Oper.

The JSO was founded in 1936, largely by emigrants from Germany, and has since been regarded as the leading Israeli orchestra alongside the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, which was founded in Tel Aviv in the same year. It is now performing in Germany for the first time in over 10 years. In addition to classics by Beethoven and Stravinsky, two well-known Israeli composers are on the program programme, both of whom were born in Tel Aviv: Noam Sheriff, who studied with Boris Blacher in Berlin in the 1950s, and the Palestinian Samir Odeh-Tamimi, who has lived in Berlin for a long time.
