Augusta Read Thomas has composed over 40 works for orchestra. Her music is commissioned by leading ensembles and organizations around the world. Pierre Boulez was also a great supporter of her work during her lifetime. Among other things, he Words of the Sea commissioned her music while she was Mead Composer-in-Residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
